John Schurer '21SGA President
In the last few years, I have been able to meet numerous people from all parts of the campus community in my various activities and positions. Through SGA, I want to use the breadth and depth of my experiences at the College to share the stories of students from all corners of campus and advocate on their behalf.

Being new to the SGA is my strength. I think a lot about the tremendous growth that I have undergone here at Middlebury. I have experienced moments of self-doubt, boundary-pushing, and limits-reaching. Middlebury constantly pushes me to challenge assumptions and narratives that I’ve had about myself, others, and our places in the broader world. I feel a deep sense of gratitude and pride in being a member of this community. I became the SGA Vice President to honor my belief that Middlebury has shaped me, but also to consider how I can shape Middlebury.
Every day, students do incredible things in response to the ideas and systems they encounter. I want to uplift their voices and promote their efforts to ensure that their hard work is heard and seen. I’m committed to engaging in conversations, making familiar faces out of strangers, and celebrating the individuals that make up our community. I’m here to help provide leadership in uncertain times and guide our collective vision. Together, we can all make Middlebury a place where everyone feels they have the space to be who they are, to feel they belong, to feel like they can call this place home. I care about making Middlebury a more equitable, sustainable, and accessible place. A lot of the work that I did in my first year with the SGA was behind ensuring students, staff, and faculty felt comfortable in the space that they were in. It doesn't matter if it is a big or small project because as long as it is about making Middlebury a place for everyone I'm all in! One of the biggest changes/projects that I hope to work in this year is to ensure that all students are safe and protected during the COVID-19 crisis and working with the administration to create accessible and equitable academic/social changes to accommodate for the needs of the students.
